An exposition of my work as a passionate storyteller, aspiring journalist, and writer.
Hi, I'm Lily Elizabeth Smith, a Syracuse University student double-majoring in Journalism and English & Textual Studies, which is just a fancy way of saying I think about words constantly and wouldn't have it any other way.
Right now, I'm a contributor for the Newshouse and a digital writer for the In the News section at University Girl Magazine, where I get to do what I love most: write stories that actually mean something to the people reading them. College students are sharp, curious, and paying attention, and I try to meet them there with reporting that's honest, accurate, and worth their time.
Political reporting is what I'm interested in pursuing. There's something about the intersection of language and power that I find impossible to look away from. I believe that good journalism, the kind that's clear-eyed and unafraid, is one of the few things still capable of holding the right people accountable.
When I'm not writing, I'm probably reading the New York Times, working through a good book, hitting the gym, or listening to Taylor Swift on repeat.
